Recommendations:
Just like investigating any construction consultant, the
single best way to select an Energy Consultant is by means of
recommendations from trusted associates or building
professionals.
Certification:
One qualification to demand in the Energy Consultant is
certification with the California Association of Building
Energy Consultants (CABEC). Certification assures the
knowledge of the energy standards and code of ethics. Most
Building Departments provide a list of CABEC certified Energy
Analysts in the area.
Experience:
Some of the most qualified Energy Consultants may also
specialize in Architecture or Design as well as have
experience in
preparing compliance documentation. Although some designers
may have limited experience in energy compliance and some
Energy Consultants may have little or no construction
experience; select a consultant which can document his
experience and knowledge of the use of materials, construction
techniques and applications. Without experience in
architecture or construction, as well as energy compliance, it
is unlikely that an Energy Consultant can provide
cost-effective, energy saving compliance options.
Advertisements:
Most phone books contain listings in the yellow pages for
Energy Consulting & Documentation. This is one of the few
locations that energy analysts advertise. Remember: ask for
references prior to retaining services.
